I'm wanting to grind some tip wedges out of core tuff glass any tips or tricks would be greatly appreciated. Thanks scott

Scott I haven't made any glass tip wedges.  I just use a small sled to do my wooden tip  wedges can't see any reason it wouldn't work with glass.  I did grind some glass down once to go over some carbon on the back of a longbow.  Just ran it through my drum sander just like I would a wood lamination.  Worked fine.

Thanks Jess I figured I'd make some type of sled.the .030 glass is so thin just thought there might be a tip or two to help taper it from .030 to 0.

Only go to about .010 - .015 on thin end, then block sand the rest. Doesn't take long if you clamp it to a square ended block and work bench. Or you can try running it thru thick end first but then you cant have a stop block on the sled.

Thanks for the tips guys!I'm going to give it a try today.I'm a fan of a stop block on a sled due to the type of lam grinder I built.so it sounds like a block clamped to the work bench is my best bet.

Well I think it went well.I did as you guys suggested.thanks a bunch for the tips.i block sanded them until the tips started to cup or get wavy i figued that would be thin enough.now if I can just keep them in place during glue up.

Cut to proper length, plus an inch, lay out on bench and put a 2 inch pc of tape holding end to end, then just apply the glue and fold over,more glue and put the bow together

I can't say I like photosuckit. You can also try imgur. You don't have to create an account if you don't mind not being able to delete the pic later. Seems fast, simple, and when people go back to an old thread the pics are still there because the site didn't make the old fart go back and delete pics to make space.

I've been sanding my wedges by tipping them into the big belt sander taped to a block at the bottom. I've been thinking of how to best try it on the drum sander. Might give it a try soon.

David I ran those through my home made drum sander first then finished them with a few pass on the bench with a sanding block.I glued a popsicle stick on the bottom of the board  on one end then thined it to approximately .030 on the drum sander which gave me an angled sled.I then glued a popsicle stick on top for a stop.seemed to work pretty good.
