Can anybody tell me if there is anything special that needs to be done with spalted maple vaneers in a glass backed long bow?  What do I do with all the little pin knots and small voids in the wood?  Do I just coat with smooth-on as I would with any other material or do I need to address the pin knots and voids first?
Thanks!

Mad Max

Clear glass on both sides?

Just make sure you get enough smooth-on in the voids.
I would rather fail at something above my means, than to succeed at something  beneath my means

Yes clear glass on both sides. Does the extra smooth on remain clear after curing ? I built a osage bow years ago that had a small knot and the area turned white just trying to avoid that again.

If you have a thick spot of glue then yes it will crack and turn white.
How bad are your lams? Do you have enough room to sand them down flat?

nashoba

I haven't made the lams yet I was thinking that I should grind them to around .030 any suggestions would be appreciated.
