I have wanted to build my own bow for years. Have read and she the interest was always there the doubt I could do such a thing was there as well. Last night was another one of those nights where I read and read down here in this subforum and the one big thing that kept coming up was a bandsaw. Don't have one..... Well money's tight and I know full well what a new band saw cost. I kept reading and looking at some of the bows you all have built and was still amazed. On my way to work today a guy down the street from me had a flatbed trailer on the back of his truck and on it sat a old band saw. I thought I'll never know unless I ask. Sure enough he was interested in selling this 30 or 40 year old craftsman band saw...... I said how much ??? $20  :)   :)  it needs some paint and cleaned up a bit and there is a small part broken in the tensioner assembly which is no problem as I work at a place with a NICE machine shop so now I'm real close tool wise to being able to build my first bow.  :)   :)  just had to share!!  ;)

Sweet! Glad to hear you made a nice find.

To anyone else reading this though, don't need to wait for a bandsaw, you can build bows with little more than a handsaw, a rasp and a file.

Great, a craftsman saw that old will be a good saw.

That's just what I was thinking   ;)  Now to figure out how to make a form and hotbox and I have an idea on building my own sander..... Have alot more experience working on metal than wood.

Awsome find! Good work! Now you just need to find the bow in a hunk of wood  ;)
