Picked up a small piece of Curly Hawaiian Koa on my last buying trip. I normally don't buy wood this expensive, but just couldn't help myself. It was just so outstanding I couldn't pass it up.

I managed to get three sets of veneers out of the piece.

After posting the veneers on my site, I think I should have bought more. While uploading these pictures two of the three sets have already "SOLD".

The last set is on the "New Veneers" Page of my site.

Hey Roy,

Wonder if Koa would work for belly wood????

I've seen folks using Ipe, Osage, Yew and a few others.

How about Bubinga, Myrtle, Shedua, or some of the other nice woods? Ever seen anybody use these?

I've used shedua in a 40# laminated bow. Have two more lams waiting for another one. It's just so pretty looking wood.

I saw an English longbow on the web that used bubinga. I believe myrtle is relatively light. Koa also is not very heavy. Shedua is about 30% heavier than koa, and some ipe approaches twice the density of Koa.
Also saw an ELB that had a king wood belly ... I have a nice chunk of king wood that should yield 4 nice lams for bow bellies if I'm careful.

I asked the same question about exotic woods for bow bellies a while back, here's the thread.

I don't know, Troy. Would have to research the specs of it..
