Any of you guys ever make your own bow stringer? I'd like to fabricate one out of some leather and a strong cord... Just trying to visualize how to cut the leather out....

I use the thumb and fingers of leather gloves

Roybert if you take half circles of leather and fold them around you form a cup. Stitch that together, pop a hole through and your golden.

This is a stringer (tip to tip) that a knife making friend of mine threw together for me before we went out shooting.  this has worked well for me.

Hey Ben, thanks for the message.    :D

You have probably seen these. At first I cut them into unshaped top nock overlays so I could get a string on high poundage bows. Later I would file them off as I shaped the nocks.

One day I thought "sure is easy to string a bow with those stringing grooves" and left them in the finished nocks. All my bows have them now.

When I send a bow out now I include a parachute cord stringer and encourage the new owner to use it. Probably saves a lot of wear and tear on the bows over time and is a very safe way to string a bow as well.

I will never string a bow without a stringer and always use a double cup stringer.

I have to admit, I usually just use push pull method. But I've also slipped once doing that on a mild recurve and nearly split my brow. I use a stringer more now.

Nice idea Eric. I think I may adopt that strategy. Push,pull is fine for me, but I've been sending stringers with my bows, I think a stringing groove and parachute cord would be a much more elegant solution.
