Osage belly, red elm core lam, backed with boo. Asymmetrical, 67" tip to tip, shooting for 50 to 55 @ 28".

I want to be the "New Guy" glueing up a bow in Roy's shop!   :archer:

Boobacker

Not a new Guy ! This is his 3rd glue up ! LOL  Looks like he has a Big ear ring in his left ear ! Last Bow Kenny is his Name! LMFAO

Bowjunkie

Denny, he'll be the new guy until someone comes along greener than he is.

Roy was my new guy for over a decade

Buemaker

Good idea with the cutouts on them bamboo clamp pads.   :)   Bue--.

Roy from Pa

Bue, I just held them on the one inch belt sander for less than ten seconds to do that. I also cut some off the edges as the full width boo pieces I used before has caused a couple bad glue joints, due to the outer edge sometimes riding on the core lam and not contact the boo backing. I'm a slow learner.

Wish I could get some bamboo around here. Don't want to pay to have it shipped.
I have seen bamboo poles at garden centers... What would be the minimum diameter pole a guy would need to be able to get a backing out of it?
theirs a fly in my soup

Roy from Pa

I would guess 4 inches. Depends on thickness of boo.

Bow out of clamps.

What type of glue is that?
Looks dark and really thin..at first I thought you were staining before glue up.

My uninbond is much lighter and certainly can't see the grain thru it.

Unibond 800 with the dark powdered hardener.  Unibond 800 is a modified urea resin formaldehyde two part adhesive with a translucent liquid resin and a powdered hardener. It comes with either a light hardener or a dark hardener. You don't apply it 1/4" thick..   :)

Zradix

Thanks Roy.
never seen the dark stuff.
I need it .24683" thick to fill in the gaps...but 1/4" is just too much.

those maths would be too much for ol' Roy to get his head around!!!   :goldtooth:

Martin Schutte

Hi Roy is it my eyes or is there two small holes on either side of the boo on the first pic at the tip of the mock up clamp part? Is that very important?

Roy from Pa

Hey Martin, yes it is. I clamp the bow pieces down and run a string down the center from tip to tip to get everything aligned and clamp it down. Then I drill two holes in the handle section where they will be covered with the leather grip. And drill two holes at the tips. I also drill holes at mid limb. After the glue is applied, the pieces tend to get slippery, so I stick tooth picks into those holes to keep everything aligned.

Martin Schutte

Thanks Roy I thought so much, an easy and cheap rig to keep everything in place!!

That is a pretty dang good idea there with the pins.  I've got a broken arrow sitting around, maybe I'll start chopping it up for that purpose.

Archer Dave

Cool looking project, wish I had someone close to do this sort of thing with.

How do the bows turn out on a clamp up without a form like this compared to a bow made on a two piece form?

Thanks,
Dave

nice one roy
