Hey gang first time using black palm and am kinda questioning weather or not to use it with out being stabilized.  So thequestion is for those who have used black palm in a riser was it stabilized? also was it in a pretty hefty bow? I'm planning on using it in a 65 pounder.

Thanks Shawn

Shawn the black palm is fine to use without stabilizing it. It is one of the woods I am using in my trade bow this year and I have another I made with it a couple years ago. The one thing I would do different in your bow versus mine is that I wouldn't use it in the part of the riser that fades into the limbs on a 65 lb bow I would use it more as a decorative piece in the middle or on the belly of the bow.

HC I was planning on using it as a flare piece in the middle for a three piece take down riser.  I'm going to put G10 in the riser for strength.

Thanks for the help Shawn

It will work perfect for you like that. Just one thing to be careful when you do cut into the black palm it is easy to pick up a splinter off the block where you cut it and get it stuck in your fingers. That's the only thing that drives me nuts working with it. Also after you get the riser shaped out make sure to use thin super glue as a filler on the black palm so that the finish you put on the bow will be nice and smooth.

Oh ill be using a whole can of shellac or two to fill pores.  I appreciate it HC thanks

Yes i've used it on risers and agree with Horn Chaser. It's a pain trying to get a feather edge on it for a riser....but it can be done....however I wouldn't recommend it!
Those splinters are the very devil!!
