ah sucess! I was wondering if I was in the rigt place. I am following 4est older build along and I cant seem to locate in the post what he suggested t do with the tip overlay after it has been cut. Can you help?

jarheadjoe

I have glued on the tips and cut them using the template that he was so gracious to make available but the post stated that the bottom would be cut later on using a different template. After a long search (I probably missed it)I cant seem to find what to do.I am in the process of completing my first bow, but am stalled.

I cut the tip of the limb off at an angle, two inches in from the tip of the limb. Then I make up my tip over lays how ever I am going to make them. The picture here has two layers, the black is buffalo horn and the wood on top is spalted maple. Your tip over lay can be one piece instead of two like I show here. I make the overlays 2 inches long also, I sand the end going toward the bow to a paper thin edge. I use smooth on glue to attach them. I wrap them with plastic wrap and wrap a bunch of gum bands around the glue up to hold it in place.

Are you familiar with 4est trekkers pyramid bow build along sir?

Roy from Pa

Are you asking about cutting in the string grooves?

Roy from Pa

Roy from Pa

Are you asking how to cut in the string grooves on the belly of the bow, to match the grooves you already have cut on the side of the limb tips?

jarheadjoe

I think I amm missing something for sure(like how to navigate in the forum) at any rate, I have glued on the tip overlay and cut it. Is there another overlay that issupposed to go on top of that? Thanks for your patience.

Roy from Pa

Can you take pictures and post them here?

jarheadjoe

I guess what I am asking is do I strt to work what I have done into the final shape, and if so is there a bottom cut that I need a template for in order to do this

Roy from Pa

No there doesn't need to be another overlay over top of it, I just made mine thinner and used two pieces.

jarheadjoe

taking pics at this point is beyond my current skill set (lol)

jarheadjoe

on page one of "So you want to build a pyramid bow" it shows the recurve tip overlay and then it goes on to show the recurve template and then the cut. I have made the cut and that is where I am stopped

Roy from Pa

If they are glued on and dry, you can cut them into shape now. I suggest searching you tube, there are many videos which could help you. Here is just an example.. However this bow video does not have overlays but the shaping process will be the same.
