My son is building his own 3 piece take-down and he had an issue with his inserts not being centered and slightly crooked which messed up his limb alignment. We have started over on a fresh riser...but I was wanting to see if I could save this one. So I drilled out the inserts and was looking for advice on a solid way to fill the holes and re-drill and tap. What are your thoughts?

thanks...

Take a scrap piece of that riser wood and make a bunch of saw dust out of it, mix that with smooth or what ever clear epoxy you have and fill the hole.

Devcon makes a product PC7, that I have used a couple of times to fill in holes.  It has worked out okay.  Good luck

Thanks for the insight. So if I fill the holes with smooth-on and saw dust mix and throw it in the oven to cure I can then re-drill in basically the same hole and re-thread into the smooth-on mix and it will be solid. I guess that is both a clarifying statement and a question wrapped up in one.

Yep, you do not need to put it back in the oven, just let it sit for 24 hours. It will drill and tap just fine .

I get oak dowels the size of the hole and epoxy them in then cut off and sand level.

Thanks for the confidence boast to move forward. I have now filled the holes and will set it aside for adequate drying time. No hurry...I had to order a couple more sets of hardware.

You may need a couple more limbs now also......   :goldtooth:

Got my new hardware yesterday and my son and I re-drilled and tapped the riser. Everything went very smooth and we have the riser rough shaped and the limbs fit very nicely on the riser. We put a string on and it pulls back to full draw with no issues. If we make some good progress tomorrow I will try to get some pics up. My son is very excited for his monster 75# take-down.

Good deal,  Glad you were able to save the riser really hurts to let piece of beautiful wood go unused.  Congrats
