Rub collar on Ridgid sander?

I used a piece of thin steel tubing same ID as the sandpaper and about an 1" wide. i  put it on the rubber drum below  the sandpaper. It rubs on the jig under the piece I am sanding to shape. The best place I found thin tubing was old vehicle driveline tube. Jim
