I just scored big time, I bought 7 boards of red elm, rough sawn, all (except for one) are 10 feet long, 12" wide and just over an inch thick, all locally milled. I paid $75 for all of it. Basically I got it for a buck/foot.

No one likes a braggart Mike--you lucky SOB. (Actually, it couldn't have happened to a nicer guy.)

Congrats! Those sound like some sweet boards.

I have a bunch of winged elm on my place I would like to cut but I dont have a way to cut them into boards. You can pretty well forget about splitting a winged elm been there and tried that.I made a bow from it once and man is it hard stuff and made a dandy bow.

Snapper, find someone with a portable saw mill. Maybe you could swap some of the lumber for him milling you some. I did that with some osage recently.

I have talked with all the mills around here and there is no one willing to work with me.I had 15 good solid cypress logs and some up to 24"dia and I couldnt even give them to them free of charge! These were solid logs with no rot on them anywhere.I ended up cutting them up and burning them.I was going to even load and deliver to the guy up the road and he wouldnt take them.
