Am relatively new to building bows.  Made a number for the grandkids (17-18# @ 20") and a 37# @ 26"  heartwood hickory for myself.  All board bows.

Now working on a maple board bow.  53" ttt, 1 3/4" @ fades tapering out of fades to 1/2" tips.  Glue-on recurve tips.

 



Grain of one limb is very straight.  Grain on other limb ... not so much.

Have a couple family members in mind for this bow.  In one case the objective would be 30# @ 26" and, in the other, 24# @ 24".

Given the shortness of the limbs and grain runoff on one limb, are either of these objectives reasonable?

Am much in need of input from ya'll having more experience than I!!

If you tiller well I think you can make either goal. Really if you make it to 30# @26 that probably really close to 24#@24".

The grain runoff is definately a concern, but if you tiller well and don't reduce the width any further I think you're ok.

Make sure those corners are really well rounded.

Yeah, Ben, radiused both back 'n' belly edges.  Radiused back edge BIG time!
