Can anyone tell me what tree this leaf belongs too? Its bark is similar to oak or elm. I live in Southern Michigan.

Sassafras albidum, family Lauraceae, commonly known as sassafras  :D  lol, I am in a dendrology class this year so am getting good at identification, lol. One surefire way to tell is break a small branch and smell it, it smells unique and amazing!!!!

Bite the stem off the leaf and chew it....I cant keep sassafras leaf stems out of my mouth when im walking through the woods. They taste great.

Yep Sassafras.  The plant actually has thre leaf shapes:  Trilobed as you show, Elliptical, and a 'mitten' shape with one lobe.
