So my buddy in Idaho sends me this message just now:

QuoteArchery season starts this Saturday and I have licenses for deer, elk, moose, bear, mountain lion, wolf, and turkey. Wish me luck!
My reply:

QuoteHave fun. I can shoot squirrels and doves.

The most frightening thing you are likely to encounter in nature is yourself.

It's all fun and games, until someone gets hurt...then its hilarious!

I think I'd have to shoot about a million squirrels to stop the pain in my ass after that.

That's rough man. I assume Indiana has a deer tag lottery?

On the plus side I hear Idaho is nice ... Maybe it's time to move ... When you decide let me know I'll split the rent .... Since I assume we'll both be getting divorced in the process we'll need to save money .... At least they'll be plenty of bows to go around lol.

My wife said ok to Montana if I can find a job that nets her a nicer house when she gets there.

Think I'm screwed.

The moose is a once in a lifetime tag, wish him luck.  No moose tag but I got all of the tags he has, except the moose, plus an antelope tag,  all over the counter.
The broadhead used, regardless of how sharp, is nowhere as important as being able to place it in the correct spot.

My son and I are headed out to hunt the general season in October.  He said if he doesn't kill a moose beforehand, he'll hopefully tag one when we are there  :)   It's 100% success rate if he falls back to the rifle but I bet he'll get it done with his recurve.  I'm sure he'll post here if he does.

John the hard part about have that much to go after is finding time to do it.

When I was in Alaska (best 4 years of my life) I got a dall sheep, moose, caribou, black bear and deer tag. I only hunted sheep moose and spring bear. never made it to the deer island or up north after the bou. Ironically they were the easiest to tag. Sigh that whole hind sight thing.(but I would not change it if I could, sheep hunting is like nothing I have ever done.)

But when I can focus on one I can do pretty well.

I do wish him luck.

The only thing I know about Indiana is that as I drove through it, I saw osage trees, really nice looking ones, in rows that seemed to go on forever. Personally, I prefer osage and squirrels, so I'd say you got him beat  :)

The thing about that Jeff is when he lived here, we cut a bunch of wood together and he took a lifetime's supply out to Idaho with him!  So he has the best of both worlds, except they got some pretty scraggly squirrels out there.  And some of them are even protected. As in, you can't shoot them!
