Echatham

so whats your good idea?    :D

D

Well I've been thinking for a long time to try and make my own lams.  So no time like the present I guess.  I made this last night.  I seen one on here so I can't claim the idea but it works really well...better than I thought it would actually.

WestTexan

Nothing but top notch bows...I like'm all. I've been spending most of my free time with a cousin of mine who just today did his 30th of 35 radiation treatments for cancer with a couple weeks of chemo thrown in and he's sure having a hard time. I did get to work a bit Sunday on the toughest piece of hackberry known to man... Last 3 bows were Osage and super easy to work. Got a couple not so good pics

D

So bare with me ******** it might take me a few tries to make the right weight..goodness I hope not though..lol

WestTexan

I'm a gadget guy myself D... I bet it'll work.

I'm making a cable-backed bow, using what I learned from Knotmare to make a five or so pound adjustable draw weight deal.  Also, I'm using it to cover up a boring hickory stick.  I'm not exactly rolling in cash, but a functional backing I can create.

Have the swap bow to 21 inches, top limb needs just a tad more wood removed, but the pull rope tells me the limbs are very close to being timed... Has a negative 3/16th tiller as of now, should drop to a negative 1/8th when the limbs are in time with each other. Tiller at a brace height isn't the name of the game, it how the limbs bend in harmony / sync at full draw that really counts... Give me another week or so and I'll get her shipped west. Maybe NW, maybe SW, maybe even California! Heck it could go all the way west around the globe to Germany or Australia.. Only the shadow knows for sure..  :)

Paul,
Check the the sponsors classifieds, Troy Breeding and Idaho Curt both have lams for sale.  I also think Big Jim has started selling them.
The broadhead used, regardless of how sharp, is nowhere as important as being able to place it in the correct spot.

Hi I am shadow.  :)  and I aint tellin ole roys secrets.

Some very nice looking bows at work.

halfseminole there is nothing wrong with plain ole hickory heck a bit of stain goes a long way. I might would toast the belly a bit. Hickory is a bit soft in the belly and putting a cable on it might do some funny stuff.

I hope some who know more correct or confirm that statement.

Walt is right check our sponsors. I have never bought a lam but Idaho curt has posted some that made me want to start.

Keep up the good work.

KellyG

Westtexan did you chase a ring on that hackberry. I have a log that worms go. I did not get the bark off and they did a bit of a number on it. I had some one chasing a ring but they do not remove like an osage ring for sure.

Roy from Pa

Kelly I already sent you a bow, now you want another one? LOL   :)

timbermoose

hey roy, lookin good, only 9" more on the tiller and you can send it my way.  ;)

Yes Kelly I sure did, I didn't trust the back and it's pretty easy to chance a few rings.

Lookin good guys! (Do we have any ladies participating in the swap this year?)
The classifieds will be the first place I go for lams. Thanks for the heads up, and pm's. I have bought some veneers from idahocurt, and they are nice. Might even use a set on my trade bow.
Plant a fruit or nut tree today, and have good hunting tomorrow.

Roy can we have to many bow?  :dunno:  I mean I got a roy's BBO Not a roy trilam. So see you caused it. But I don't have a Trux's anything or Kennym  Or a bow from overseas yet and many many others. So God willing I will be running or in this swap for a long time to come yet.

Texan did you scrap it off or use your draw knife? I had the guy who was wanting to build a bow start with a draw knife but I think things are on hold until winter is over and his wedding is behind him.
