Well I have my first 3 piece take-down under my belt. This is a 68" ntn 60# @ 28". I really enjoyed this build and learned a lot! The grey action wood riser is really heavy which I assume contributed to the fact that this bow has absolutely no handshock.  I will be building more of these for sure! However I want to get a bit more creative in the riser design - this one is fairly simple.

Pretty dang fine! Especially for the first. Nice limb shape too.

I haven't attempted a take down yet but hope that when I do it comes close to as nice as yours.I really like the riser too.And to get the thumbs up from Beach means something cause he puts out some real nice bows.

Got started on a bow for myself this morning before work. I blanked out the riser and glued up one limb...just took it out of the form and got the other one in the form. Figured I'd take a few pics and see what y'all think. This entire bow is made of scrap pieces from other projects...except for the clear glass on the back. Everything else was either damaged or leftovers.

Looks nice Dave!

Today I realized that Krystal finish doesn't like a lacquer substrate. I've previously used rattle can lacquer to seal cocobola and keep the bow from getting dirt in the grain as I shoot it in. Sand it down a little, and finish right over it. This is the first bow that I've tried to finish with Krystal though.

It started when Sweka pointed out that the string seemed to be digging in at the lower nock. Well, it really wasn't, but the finish had flaked off. I figured I must have left some wax there and started trying to feather the area out to touch up before the final coat. Well, one thing led to another and I started to realize it was a bigger problem. Pulling out the scraper, the Krystal just popped right off the lacquer in flakes.

So the morning was spent completely sanding down the swap bow (and then some to be sure) before starting the finishing process all over. I'm not perfectly happy with the finish, but it'll do. At least my lettering looks better this time with new pens.

I think I need a bigger tip on my spray gun, looks like about 1.3 or 1.4 when I look in the literature. Picking out HVLP spray guns seems like rolling the dice though. Oh well, all in due time.

Nice looking leftovers, can't wait to see it with some finish on it.

Cut out a few black locust shafts from a board my Father had sawn for a utility cart he was working on at the time, about 20 years ago.  It should be dry enough, LOL.

I use a 1.4 when spraying krystal...

Thanks guys! Hoping to have some time this week to get it to the shooting stage. I'll post some pics when I get it that far.

Had to work a few hours today, got camera phone pics of a Ground owl on a fence post, a quail on a pine tree branch and a fox hanging around a walking path.

Finished my second takedown three piece today! First one was 68" ntn  - this one is 62" with a 15" riser rather than 17" like the first. It is 57# @ 28"  - all cocobolo bow, riser, wedges, nock overlays and veneers. Red Elm core wood.

Shoots smooth and fast - I will be hunting with this one this season!

I just love that dark wood combo.
Today, I started my annual shop clean out. Wood that was once neatly piled against the walls had crawled out to where I almost had to climb over it to get around and I could no longer put my bandsaw away. Now all that's left is to find a way to store a pile of small but good pieces of various hardwoods that are good for bow lams, risers, turkey calls,.... you get the idea. too good to throw out or burn.
The other day I joked to my boss about using part of the 176000 square foot warehouse. I was only partly kidding.    :knothead:
