Really encouraging words Pat... you made me really thinking about signing in!
Guess more information about the participation will be shared here as soon as signing-in starts?

D

Glad my phone stopped posting the same message..lol  I guess I hit the button two too many times.  Pat said it probably the best as it can be said.  Just jump in and go for it.  Like Pat said if you need help there are a lot of people on here that know what they are doing and are always more than willing to help.

These guys are right! The swap is for everyone AND don't wait until the last minute to start. Things happen and you can't make up for lost time.... As has been said, the swap brings out your best work. I watched during the fist trade but took part in the last three.
PatB hit the nail on the head.  If you try your best and learn a little in the process, the swap is a success.

So, I had to go back and look.  The 2013 Bow Swap Sign Up Thread came out on 12/26.  I keep checking back to see if the 2014 one is up yet.  Anyone else with me?

I haven't heard much from Stiks this year though.  Is he going to have time for this?  I know he got really busy last year.

Yeah Dave, also checking back religiously. Looking forward to having a reason for making more bows ... need some fodder to convince Dana I need to be grinding laminations instead of doing housework.

Well it is not even a new year yet but I am glad to see the interest is sparked up and going strong.

GentlemanArcher

I'm in again.  Been looking forward to it for some time now.

Dannon

Where are the rules for the swap and trade?

D

They will post the rules when they post the sign up thread.

Yes sir.  Does that mean y'all are planning to post it Wednesday?  Or keep playing with our heartstrings a little longer?

Hey Moem, I would love to see more guys from the old world participate and I can only recommend you to join. The last two years I was thinking about taking a break, because I had so much other stuff going on. But then again, there's to much fun in this to leave it just to the other guys and I couldn't resist.

I think I'd throw in this year too.

I believe I shall as well.  Just finishing up a toasted hickory for my hunting buddy, and I have some good ERC and hickory put up for just such.

So, all this swap talk got my juices flowing.  I just started finishing two bows I glued up last summer as part of the bow swap 2013.  One was my plan B bow (cherry and black locust), and one was for me (yew with black glass.)  Funny how time slipped away and they just sat there begging quietly for attention...

I'm still keeping my hopes up that I can get geared up to make my first glass lam bow this year and make one for the swap.

canopyboy, I got those woodies made for the bow you made me last year(cherry/black locust).  I posted a pic on PowWow in one of the woodies threads. If I can keep improving my shooting like the last two times I shot I might just be able to fulfill the dream of my first trad turkey hunt this spring.

Thanks again.  :)

Canopyboy,

Those look like a classic hill style...and it would look perfect in my hand...

reckon i'll be in again this year. already got a few staves roughed out and ready. plus making some glass bows now too so will have to see which actually comes out of the shop.

my wife asked a question i hadn't thought of, maybe some of you had. whats the ratio been like? glass to selfbows i mean.

Ooh, gosh.  I think it's been a good mix.  Probably a few more non-glass bows though, maybe 60/40 non-glass to glass?  (There have also been non-glass laminated bows too, selfbows to glass would be close to even I think.)

Kelly might have hard numbers, at least based on sign-ups.

I read this thread yesterday and thought a better get out and check my stave stash and while I was at it got a 6 footer down to 2 inches wide.... Now that I've signed up I think I'll get a shorter one ready this weekend.
