Anyone use ipe if so how well does it glue up and take finish.seems too heavy for lams but would make nice riser wood.the hard wood dealer makes furniture with it and had trouble gluing it.

I use it a lot for ibeams. I have had no trouble glueing with smooth-on. It is really a good stable wood.

It is oily so be sure and wipe it down with
Alcohol. (scotch)

I use it for bamboo backed bows.
Glues fine with unibond or smooth on.

I'd only use it in a riser if you wanted a heavy riser.

Recently the quality has gone down hill. I have to order through the mail and can't depend on not having knots or grain run out.

Roy had a piece in his shop one time & had a bad reaction to it I've had a piece here for about a year & afraid to work on it.

I've never had any problems gluing it with titebond. I don't know what the furniture guys are using but I have had no problems at all. Bamboo backed ipe, tri lams. All good with normal titebond III wood glue.

I used it to build a takedown riser, nice and heavy.  It finished very well and I like the looks of it.  The only downside for me was the dust burned my eyes, like no other wood I have used in the past. And it do make a bunch of dust when grinding or sawing.  I would use it again if, it were available locally for a good price but, would do the grinding and sanding out of doors if possible.

Yup IPE really messed me up. I won't ever go near it again.

There are many different types of IPE.  I perfer the stuff thats dark and oily.  I have some lighter stuff folks used on decks, but it seems less dense.

Honestly I use what I can get.

Likewise, I prefer the super dark almost black ipe. Seems not to be common for the decking.

I have one nice set of belly lams left of the really black stuff. Waiting to do something really nice with it. I'm thinking hickory back, maple core, ipe belly, kingwood riser or something equally excessive.
