hiya all
i really want to build a one piece glass longbow for a local kid in the neighborhood. he doesnt get much from his dad and step mum( long story!!)
anyway he has a box store kids bow- that he practices with every day- so he really is committed.

i would like to build him something that will last a little while, until i can help him build his 'next bow'

anyway his specs are 10 yrs old, 59" tall, and comfortably pulls 20# @24".

was hoping to do something in a mild reflex deflex or hybrid type style.

does anybody out there have a pattern/profile that would be suitable, and stack sizes to go with it, or should i just use an existing adult bow template, at about 62", and set up for 35# @ 28"- that should give me about 23-25# @ 24".

am i outta whack here, or would it work ok.
thanks.

I have built a few and just used my 62" form and cut the bow down to length.  Not much reflex if any left but the kids don't care or at least the ones I have given one to didn't.  I also used 2" wide glass and split it lengthwise into two one strips.  Only one strip of glass per bow the savings allows one to give more bows away to kids.  I made mine about 50" long with a 12" riser. I think I used a total stack of around .250".  Hope that helps if there is anything else I could do I would be happy to try.

Addding to what Jess said ... I've heard of people building the entire bow 2" wide, then ripping the entire bow into two 1" wide blanks .... one glue up, 2 bows.

I'd say that 58" D/R would be great for him!
Stay sharp, Kenny.
