Hey I have had enough buying wood off of **** that just isnt good enough and is too expensive. here on the west coast we just dont have the dense wood as the rest of the states.I harvest Baywood and vine maple that is usually not big enough. What do people do around here. does anyone live in california that has some insight in the matters of finding wood to use? Any info would help.

Tenbrook lives on the Westside Santa Cruz, He has ipe and bamboo. Most bows I make are board bows of ipe, soft maple, hard maple, ash and jatoba. I get mine from probuild and auroa hardwoods. I made a bow out of scotch broom 3/4" by 51"t2t that was 47# at 28" very dense material. Around Aptos should be some nutmeg, juniper, ash and I know I seen some bay laurel on freedom that was 5to6 inches dia.

There is wood all over the place.
Any wood will make a bow.
The bowyer bible #4 is very helpfull...

Vine maple is excellent and you should be able to find large enough pieces with a little experience.

Fruit trees are awesome as well.

Branch bows are fun and you can get decent shooters from a 3/4" stave...

Ya just gotta start making shavings.
