Just wondering what grit paper do you guys use to grind lams with,I have been using 60 grit but,was wondering if I should go coarser?

I've used anywhere from 40 to 60 grit.

Usually 40, but have been to 50 and 36 before.

36 leaves some lines, and with the belt oscillating, makes swervy lines, so 40 now.
Stay sharp, Kenny.

If Kenny uses 40, then use 40. His lams are the best

I've always used 36 because that's what I was taught you needed. But it's true it leaves sanding lines that shows up ALOT on certain woods or stains. Sadly I ordered a bulk supply last time I ordered sand paper!

I have used 60 grit from the git-go. I have heard some guys use 80 for veneers.

I only use 40 grit but did experiment with 24 Grit once. Great if you want to reduce thick lams quick but wouldn't use it for final passes

I just wanted to make sure that I wasn't starving the glue joint,I am talking glass bows here and smooth-on.Anyone go back and rough them up with another grit as well.

There would be no need. If you grind them with a coarse enough paper, when they're done, they're adequately roughed and ready for glue up.

I bought 2 rolls 14m velcrobacked p80 for my hand-fed DIY drumsander and ist`s not coarse enough for fast grinding; next time I`ll order 60 or even 40 grit...

I cut all my lams with a thickness planer.
