I use a 21/64 bit to drill all limb holes. gives plenty of room for 5/16 bolts. I also use it to drill the pin holes even though they are only 1/4. gives me some wiggle room in lining up limbs. Ill show you how I lock the pins in place later.

Here is a little expedient trick for perfect pin hole position. bolt the limb on on top of the pins and tighten once it is straight. Leaves dimples for drill guides.

second limb out of form, cut out, rough profiled and bolted on.

It was a little heavy. lot of tillering to lose weight.

Next to Dan I was the first to hold your riser Paul.  It is one fine piece of wood.   I helped Dan clean that shop during the heatwave.  Man was it hot.

Paul wanted 58# at 30" but he said this is ok.

Once I get the limbs alligned and tillered I flatten the sides of the limb pads so if the limb sides are flush I know its straight. Helps because I have some play in the limbs due to larger pin holes.

Horn overlays are feathered to my satisfaction.

And thats where I will leave it tonight.

Dan, you might want to go ahead and sight that thing in for Paul,we have a little competition coming up in August and he'll need some help. Awesome work, wish I had talent like that.

That bow is gorgeous.  The recipient should count himself lucky indeed.

I've really enjoyed watching how takedown bows are made-it's intrigued me for a long time.  I love TDs, but I couldn't figure out how to make them work from the building side.  This has been a real eye-opener.

Dan Bonner

Thanks all. Building a deer camp cabin this week and then Ill finish these bows up. Dave I will be sure and zero it in soon for Paul. I'm gonna try to make the trip up in August too. And I think you are being a little generous with the talent remark but thanks just the same.

Finish sanded Pauls bow.I use the marker to fill in all the low spots. then I use 240 grit emory cloth and a gloved hand to press it against the low spots and drag it across them until they are level and the ink is gone.

I use this abrasive wheel at 3600 rpm on the sander to finish out the riser and limbs.

last time on the tiller tree. Paul wanted 58#@30". Heres where it finished.

Not too bad. Less that 1.5#.
now to lock the limbs in place. the holes are oversized so I have room to adjust limb tracking. once it is perfect heres how I lock them in place.
