I just missed out on 700 board feet of rough cut red elm for $0.85 a board ft.  all 5/4 - 8/4 boards.  It was local on craigslist and I just waited too long to call...

My stomach just dropped as I read that.

LittleBen

that would be like 10cents per lam?

Either that or you could have put an elm floor in your workshop ...

kennym

Wow! Hate that!! Good lam lumber for sure!!
Stay sharp, Kenny.

Looks like everyone is hunting for great deals.

Between last weekend and yesterday I made a big score on well over 500 bd ft of walnut, 500+ bd ft of cherry (with several of the pieces being curly), 100+ bd ft of hickory, 100+ bd ft of hackberry and approx 50 bd ft of Mulberry.

Only about half (at best) of it will be good enough or even used for bow lams. The rest will be made into furniture.

Still it's hard to turn down material when your able to nab it for less than .50 cents a board foot.

Troy, you're killing me! 50 cents a foot! I gave a price to build a walnut pedestal for a taxidermy mount and by the time I bought the wood, it went up $2.oo a foot. It's close to $10.00 now.

$10.00 bd. ft.????

Holy cow!!! I'd have a cow if I had to pay anywhere close to that...

On average plain walnut runs alittle under $3.00 bd. ft. around here.

I've been making estate sales and finding great deals on alot of well seasoned (10+ years) wood.

It's the only way I can afford to make afew pieces of furniture.

I was paying between $3.00 and $5.00 until recently. The sawmill I bought from burned down and I'm stuck with the expensive guy. The mill is supposed to be running again in a few months.
