Hello,

I'm in the process of making my first bbi.
I was sanding the boo and it's pretty thin.

Little thinner than 1/8" at the crown mid bow.
Less than a 1/16" at the tips.

I'm trying to glue a R/d bow.

Will such thin boo be strong enough to hold the curves?

Thanks

If you get the wood thinned so that you're not bending a whole lot more than you need to make weight, and pretaper it... it will hold.... no problem. That stuff is amazing. Expect a little bit of spring back when it comes off of the form... but that would be expected even if your bamboo was thicker.

Don't 'fret' over it so much. Just go for it.

Are you going to glue that damn bow up or what? I'm tired of reading about this, just get er done son

damnit Roy.
Some people still have to work ya know...lol

After work, kids' soccer practice, dinner, play with my kids for a couple mins before bed time..and maybe talking with my wonderful Wife for a few minutes I'll retreat to bowmaking.

Really though thanks for all the help Guys.
I'm a bit worried as there aren't funds available for more wood and I sold my bow to afford making one..and taking my Son to his first MLB game this June for a birthday present.

I gotta make this one work...

that is ideal thickness for bamboo backing. the bamboo doesn't really hold the shape, the glue joint does. bamboo just does the tension work, and does it better than any other natural material besides maybe several courses of sinew.

Zradix, I've been watching your build and was wondering -- did you pretaper the ipe thickness before glue up or did you leave it the full 3/8"?
