I started a new riser block and things just don't want to go my way. What I am attempting is nothing new. It seem the more I try the worse it gets. I decided to go ahead and glue it up. With my fingers crossed now I wait. Has anyone ever went through anything simaliar?

dont worry- i was shaping a riser for a three piece take down for myself, got all cofused with the marking, and ended up cutting the shelf on the right side( for a left handed shooter- ooops!!!
found some one to give it too- never told them it was a mistake-"yup yup oyea i make left handed bows all the time-southpaw sympathy!!"

I was frantic to do a glue-up and nothing seemed to go right. I left the shop and went to the woods for a few hours waiting on a dumb hog to wander by. No hog but the next day the glue-up went just right. Sometimes just walk away and give it a rest, come back and everything has righted its's self.

Hope your riser works out for you

Yeah, it seems that when I make a bow for myself, everything goes smoothly, but when I make a bow for someone else, something is bound to go wrong.

This riser has been in the works for sometime. It started out rough an hasn't got any better. On the bright side I will probably keep it for myself. I guess a little character won't hurt.  :dunno:

Yes bud.  I've been there and still go there from time to time.  Hope it pans out for you

Been there done that. That's exactly why I keep  bow building as strickly a hobby. Sometimes when it's not fun anymore I walk away till the urge hits me. That wouldn't be profitable if a man planned on  feeding his family. God bless the folks who do this for a living. Actually it might be a good thing I'd probably weigh about 80lbs less!
Most people get rich by making more money than they have needs, me, I just reduced my needs!

Haven't got it cleaned up yet. The verdict is still out. It is a block of laminate. I sand it crooked trying to put a center flare in it. Then had way to many big gaps to fix. I basically ran out of wood to fix my err. I am afraid it will look odd with different layers popping out. It was either glue it together or start over. I still have my fingers crossed it will turn out ok.

Ok so I finally got around to working on this riser. It seems like it will be in good shape. I really had my doubts for sometime. The only thing now is I'm going to have to buy a new bandsaw. It decide to go kerplop today. Here is were we are at so far.

Kenny the laminate is black, brown and natural. It is called buckskin. I thought it would make a good late season camo.

Bloodyell, I dont't see what could go wrong with such an uncomplicated glueup.   ;)    ;)    You got some skills Bue--.

Crooked Stic

All those things you do learning and fix them are called character flaws  ;)  Some of them only you know so go on with it. Don't look bad from here.
