Hi,

Looks like I want to build a bow too late..lol

Is there any room temp curing glue for all wood bows that fills gaps a bit like urac 185 did?

Thanks

There is a replacement  I think it is unibond 800.
Basically the same thing with choice of colored powder.

Many on here have already used it.

To be sure I got the name right do a Urac search here.

I used unibond 800 on my first laminated bow, worked awesome.

Zradix, take a look at my BBI build (if you have a couple spare hours on your hands lol, its kinda long)  but it sounds like you might benefit from all of the help and advice and learning that I got along the way.

Should I buy the pint or the quart for 1 bow?

i bought the pint, and i could probably make 5 bows with it... it has a shelf life of about a year if kept cool... if i remember correctly... so definitely the pint.

When it's going I will.

Just ordered the unibond.

Going to Menards tonight to look for wood.
They are the only place I could find that sells some Hickory that's somewhat close...still 40 mins away..lol

Hopefully I'll be able to find a couple pieces...wanting to do a backing so I can glue in some reflex sure reduces my chances of finding enough wood.

Locally my stores only carry red oak..

Have to pick up some spring clamps too.
Have about 15 c-clamps, and a few "quick clamps"..I think they're called.

those 99 cent spring clamps i got at home depot worked great for me. i got 24 of them and it was just enough... i didn't have c clamps already though.

Being in Portugal, there's no Smooth-on or URAC 185 around here that I can find. What I use is an epoxy resin made for boat-building, also used for making skateboard and skis, that works very well in wood/fiberglass laminates. It cures at room temp in about 6 hours, is sandable after 2 or 3 hours, and cures fully in 24 hours. It also has an adequate amount of flexibility once cured, which is why it is successful in skateboards and skis. It is called Epofix 2000. I will try to dig out the spec sheet that I have somewhere.

Here is the link to the manufacturer's site:

The "Epofix 2000" is a branded name. On the tin, it says HT126A, and it really matches the description for the GRAF RESIN HT 126 B on the site above.

Hope this helps.

I've made several all wood bows and several rawhide backed bows with good old Titebond 3 wood glue.
