Cost effective black riser material?

India Ebony, I think much cheaper than gaboon
Brazilian ebony, Not usually totally black but gets close, if you can pick the piece it might work.
Katalox, pretty dark

Guess, I am out voted on wenge being a good riser material.

I still won't use it in large applications, don't have the patience to fill the big pore's with all the other materials available.
The broadhead used, regardless of how sharp, is nowhere as important as being able to place it in the correct spot.

where do you guys get your ziricote and other hardwoods?

There's a number of places that deal in exotic woods but they're not gonna necessarily have pieces that are riser sized cuts. I'd stick with the above

black actionwood or dymnondwood. wenge is dark but not black (i wouldn't use it either Walt)
