Mornin all,
I purchased a R/D templet a couple of weeks ago. The only longbows that I had shot were the one's that I had made, Hill style. Can you tell me, is there much difference between the two in shooting performance? Will one stack more than the other, hand shock and so on.
Thanks for your help,
Mike

Apples and oranges.
A R/D is a high performance style bow and a Hill is a work horse. From what I know about stacking it is a result of the limb tip/string angle so if the limb is long enough or has enough reflex or recurve there shouldn't be any stacking. Handshock is the result of limbs being out of time with eack other or excessive tip weight.

I build both styles.  I use to think that my Hill styles didn't have any handshock until I started building r/d bows.  I now notice the handshock in my Hill styles, but I get use to it again and stop noticing if I stick to my Hill styles for a while.  At a given draw weight, the r/d will be faster.

My 61#hill bow will launch a 610 grain arrow around 176fps but my 47# takedown r/d bow will shoot that same 610 arrow at the same speed. Each style of bow had their own pluses and minuses and and if you are thinking the r/d bow looks to be the obvious choice there is not 800+ pages dedicated to hill bows and this year I am planning on only shooting one bow and it is a hill style bow.

Think of it this way are ya an old ford truck guy or a mustang guy?

I did have a 69 El Camino once. Was a great ride...

If I took 5 and came back, I'd just be older!  :D
