I have only seen two trees, each on private property and a big "no way" from the owners. Have to start planting seeds in northern NJ!!!   Can only dream.
didn't understand - now I do.

This was at a local 3d shoot a few years ago, please excuse my buddys compound. The course was in a creek bottom and osage trees were plentiful there, although not many of them were this straight. I'll try to dig up some better pics later today.

I've had this one eyed out on my father's farm for years and I just haven't had the time to go cut it down.  I've seen the same bark on some really snaky osage before so I hope it's the same underneath this one.

Joe, you may be eligible for some sort of award for "most appropriate user name on tradgang." That stuff must be part of your soul.

One of my favorites, from 2004:

We didn't cut that one but found a few more manageable ones.  We had to carry them pretty far though.

My (then 6 year old son) James helped with the splitting chores.

This is the best I can do. This was a seedling given to me for a B-day present by a friend about 5 or 6 years ago. I know I'll never get to see it any near as big as the ones shown above but at least I can dream. d;^) We have very few osage trees around here. A couple I know of are right along a state road and the NCDOT keeps it pruned with their bush hog on a stick.
Anyway here is my favorite osage tree...

It has a sucker growing up from the roots so if this one gets a little bigger I may give that a shot Clint. I do have it staked and have trimmed the small branches from the trunk.

Pat, I can bring you enough hedge apples to plant a forest of those things if you want.

Thanks Clint but I would rather plant hybrid chesnuts on my 25ac. I know where plenty of osage is and I don't have to cut and split it...ole buddy ole pal! d;^)
