Has anyone ever made a bend through the handle glass bow? Do you think a standard longbow stack would work without the riser?

maybe a more aggressive taper like .003 or .004

Would a person have to add a thin lam to the handle area to make it a tad stiffer?

I love shooting my BBI and osage bendy handles and just thought a glass one would be a fun experiment. What are your thoughts???

glad you are asking this, i wanna see the answers- it is something i have always had an interrest in!!
i , like you, love my bend thru the handle bows!

I am feeling left out at the moment... anyone have a picture of a "bend thru the handle bow"? I am not sure I know what that is.

Here is one I made with osage-

The don't have a stiff handle area and bend through out the bow.

rmorris

Nice! That is a good looking bow. I would imagine it would make the bow incredibly smooth. Thanks for the pictures and information.

they can ( not always) be a wee bit shocky, as there is no heft/ weight to the handle area, any errors in limb timing seem to be amplified- but man i do love shooting them!

Do a bench search for    Glass elb   I did one a while back. I would suggest a very heavy taper using full length unspliced Lams.  If I were to do this again I would use .009 or .010 taper per inch.

CardboardDuck

Thanks for the info Brad, That bow is exactly what I was thinking about. Where can I find full length tapers?

Maybe a layout like this?

glass
parallel
taper .003
taper .003
taper .003
parallel
glass

I think if I do this I'll shoot for around 50lbs @ 28" so maybe a total stack of around .450 - .500?
Thanks.

Four winds bamboo out of Colorado.  Not a sponsor so no link they come up on google.  I've ordered from them.

Would splicing the tapers together be a bad idea for this design? The only reason I ask is because I happen to have a couple leftover sets of .003" maple tapers.

bjansen

I would probably not splice...might work, but full length would be best.

50# at 28" I would suggest a .590 lam stack.  My glass ELB had a .685 thick lam stack and came out to 76#

I do think Bingham has full length lams...but I am not sure if they are barrel tapered ...Kenny may do it and if all else fails let me know and I can help you out.

CardboardDuck

Well I got it glued up and in the hotbox tonight thanks to kennym's super speedy service  :)

I made a straight form for my airhose and the stack ended up being .570" and I used a total of .009" taper. Hard maple with brown glass back/belly. Didn't want to go too fancy with this experiment... Hopefully I'll get it cleaned up and cut to size tomorrow.

Come on now, don't leave us hanging.  Lets see those pictures.
