Hi to All, I am thinking about building a trilam one piece R/D longbow. I am going for 66" and about 50#@29". I am going to use hickory for a backing (and heres where I get confused)beacuse I am thinking maple for the core with a .003 taper and Ipe for the belly. My question is, will this wood combo work well together and at what thickness should each layer be to hit my draw/weight. I appreciate all advise.

The other woods I have right now are Walnut, Yew and I have some Bamboo flooring. I will be getting some Cherry soon.

Thanks in advance
Joe

Joe, your wood combo should work well for your bow. You could use hickory backing, black walnut core and yew belly for a different wood color combo. The bamboo flooring will make a good core too.

I think I'm going to embark on a bamboo maple ipe tri-lam as well. I love the look of the light core wood with ipe.

I am bad about chiming in on this site but I have been building these composites for a while and the combo I recommend is natural bamboo back, bamboo flooring core and osage belly

Si, do you have any recommendations on thickness and taper.

I'd love to see the bamboo/ walnut/ yew combo.
Can yew sawn from boards be used? That's about the only yew I have available here.
