Found this tree on our land and I can't say that I've ever seen anything like it on osage.  Anyone have anything like this before that could guesstimate what the grain might look like?

Nasty as heck. Just cut it and send it to me. I need some good big corner fence post.  :biglaugh:

Only one way to find out for sure! Go for it!
If it's no good for self bows, you could sell or trade it to someone who can make some crazy veneers.

I say cut it and find out, then we'll all know if we find one like it in the future, besides, it looks like it's in misery.....Dan

Lots of spirits in that one.  Leave it be.  Even good looking osage turns worse when cut.  That'll be unusable for bows I bet.

That's not snakey grain, those are limbs/knots growin' over. I'm guessin' it would be virtually unusable for selfbows, but might make some beautiful lams under clear glass IF you had the means, or knew someone who did, to properly cut and care for it.

I don't see enough good about the smaller limbs either.

I'd just leave it be.

I don't have any wild ambition at the moment to go cut the tree down.  It does help that my parent's land is about 6 hours away and I can't just go anytime.  Gives me time to talk myself out of any silly decisions.  That and I was more curious if someone had some experience with something like that on a tree.  Thanks for the input and as far as I'm concerned the tree will grow old.  Just curious is all.

Goose it looks a lot like some I cut for call blanks. It was almost like a burl pattern but with more elongated grain figure. Like has been said, would makes some nice lams under clear glass.

I see a wise old face in the top of the trunk on your last pic. I'm all about using what God gives us but.....kinda a cool tree.
