A friend of mine just cut down a few apple trees and wants to know if I want some wood. Does apple wood make good bows? Or should I just get some for smoking meat?  :)

before anyone else tries, it makes terrible bows just cut some fairly straight pieces about 70" long and ship them to me. if you can get a straight enough piece it makes a good self bow.

i have a chunk of crabapple i am due to try. its straight and about 7.5' long, and about 6" in diam.what are the ideal dimensions for a bow of this specie?

I asked for anything 3 - 6 feet long, 3" diameter, and relatively straight.  Maybe I can splice something!  We'll see what she comes up with.

Seen a spliced handle on another sight, pretty bow. build it like a maple or oak bow, if it is green you may split it and see how much twist it has, you can correct that pretty easy green. If it is green and you split it lash it to a straight 2x to keep it from twisting while it drys.

if it deosnt make a bow it sure does make good BBQ
