Questions:
What specific brand and variety of thread would a man get to make a linen string?  Where would you get?
What kinda linen do I need to back a bow with?  Where could I come up with that?  I've heard old linen clothes work but I wouldn't know linen from cotton in clothing.
Thanks,

John...........

You can buy linen sewing thread from a carpet supply or maybe even a large sewing center. Check the larger fabric centers for linen material. I never had any luck with linen strings, to be strong enough they had to be too thick, I use B50 for my trad bows.

My local fabric stores have linen yard goods so for bow backing I'd check them.
Linen string can be challenging to find. Some guys I know who really like linen strings use   Pyro Supplies .
Quality can vary a bit so test whatever you get to see the strength so you can determine how many strands to use for your bowstrings.

I used the Pyrosupplies waxed linen thread for strings and got about 100 shots per string before they broke. And they all broke under the serving. From repeated bending in that area I suppose. Maybe the unwaxed would have been better, don't know. Strands are twisted up clockwise, so make sure to make your string in that direction if Flemish style.......Art

And that's one reason why I won't use it. Quality is just too hit and miss. I don't have any issues with using B-50 on a self bow.

I found something I really like in my mixed strings (Dacron & FF) Guy. Going to stay with that........Art

Well I may just have to stick with b-50.  I was wanting an all natural materials setup but I don't want to have to build new strings every 100 shots.  I'll see if I can find a fabric store within driving distance.  Thanks gentlemen.
