As a new bowyer I am pretty lucky pacific yew grows all over the place up here.I want to go cut one down. But my wife thinks it might be against the law. Does anyone now who I would contact to check the regulations on cutting trees down. Thank you for your time.

Can't really help you with the law stuff but I'm slightly interested in the topic. In wyoming we don't have primo bow wood like Osage yew and hickory but we do have russian olive and juniper which I would like to harvest to try for bows but not sure on the legality of it. Guess it depends on who's land it is on. National forest you would probably call Forest  service and possibly get a permit to cut trees. Blm land I'm not sure.

You might try the state of federal forestry commission. I know guys that live in Oregon and cut yew. You may have to obtain a permit.

Yeah if you are National Forrest land you must get a permit!

Only need a permit to cut on public forests, not on private ground. In Europe the yew tree is protected even on private property. Local forestry official can give you permit info if you are planning to cut on public property.

yep,you have have to jump through the hoops to get the permit...if they ask what you want it for tell them primitive use or primitive bows....and you will get the run around...john

Get a Christmas tree permit. Whose to say what kind of Christmas you want LOL
Just Kidding , But it could work.

Contact BLM and just ask what you would have to do to cut a little yew. Also ask if you might possibly find out where They stripped bark for taxol and be able to get good staves frome standing dead trees. Just a thought.

talk to the logging companies, its trash wood to them, "no commercial value!!!!!"
they leave it right where they fall it, some will take it out for firewood- makes decent firewood.

i would call forest service..the christmas tree permit would work good..hohoho...
