After a only a few days from finishing the tiller on my first bow I decided to start on my second. I needed a break from work and a day to just clear my head. Today started with laying out the bow on the billets and then only using my draw knife and rasps getting the limbs thinned out.

I came back to the house and thinned out the belly side of the limbs down to 3/4 of an inch and glued up the handle sections on the billets... here are some pictures of the progress....

The two limbs together

Handle and fade area... not finished with the fades

Limbs side profile... one limb has a flare towards the belly side that needs to be taken out... my arms were dead by this time

Tips... one limb has a knot that had to come into play... need to figure this one out

Well that is a great start... will get back to it this weekend after days of hunting! Good luck to all that head to the woods this weekend! Justin

Looking real good. Where did you get the sleeves from.

it is from 3riversarchery.com ran me $30 and is in a D shape... I read some olderr post of people using just round metal and having issues. The smaller side has a brass D which I haven't worked on that side yet... plus they aren't glued on so I can see which side I like better with which sleeve part

leave it. so far what ya got looks great. my first bow was a 2 piece. looks just like i remember it when i first started it. get them sleeves fitted and use 5 min epoxy to glue the limb butts . use painters tape around the fades to protect from some glue ooze. let it cure for 24 hrs. you may have to sand the brasss butts  with 400 grit paper due to some expansion from the brass but not much, you'll see. then tiller like a one piece bow. you have a great project going so far for me building a 2 piece is my favorite build. i cant wait to do one again. im looking foward to your progress. rv

I agree with OT.  Leave the pin knot.

Got more done guys... I had to edit this post. One limb I screwed up wicked on so I started another limb today and got the other one roughed out as well... sorry if this post confuses you!

Question for you guys that have done these take downs. When I was fitting up the handle section they were pretty snug to get them together. I have been working them in and out and now I have a slight wiggle between the two limbs...

Is this going to be an issue or when the bow is strung they wont be bothered with this... I plan on working on the fade areas this week while my BBO glue up is drying

Any advise would be appreciated

The trick to using those D-takedown-sleeves is to wax them.  Remove any "lips or burrs" from the inside edge of the sleeve and sand down the sides of the male ends if needed then cover all mating surfaces with some wax and slide them together.  You can also use a vise to slightly change the shape of the pieces if necessary.
Once the bow is strung that wiggle will be gone.

You did the same thing I did on my fist attempt at a take down. You filed wood on the brass sleeve end to match the brass sleeve. If you fit the two parts together and filed wood on the brass end to match the outer steel end you wouldn't have had the shelf effect on one end of your fitted sleeve.

Like I said, I did the same thing on my takedown, caught my error about halfway into filing wood to the brass sleeve and glued a little wood on to fill the gaps.
