I just completed this bow today! 60# @ 28" hickory selfbow (other than glued on hickory heartwood tips). Tips are flipped slightly and returns to almost zero set after ten minutes rest. Shoots VERY hard and fast! Red oak stain and tung oil finish. Jute wrap handle which is my favorite to do since it looks so good and easy to do and provides a great grip surface.

I just got back from a few weeks in Oberammergau Germany (Army) and I snapped a pic of some yew bows in the window of a small shop. Too bad it was closed! I really wanted to handle these things and talk to the maker a bit. I had heard he makes them there. Maybe next time (I hope)

These were spread out over spring and summer but I've been gone alot this year for Army things and busy in between travels at home and work. I try to have a few in the works at all times. Some make it and some don't for various reasons. Usually a bow tells me it has no interest in being a bow 1/3 the way through and I grab a new stave and start again. Weird how even from the same tree one will be nice and stiff and another will be all mushy feeling. When I find one of those I start experiments on it like belly toasting or different bending teqniques so at least I gain knowledge out of it. I don't mind breaking a stick of wood that that had no ambition to become a bow. I have tons of hickory right now but I need to go out and find some Locust,ERC, Sugar Maple and maybe some yellow Birch while I'm at it. I don't think you can have too much wood drying out!
