Funny Joe. Always hate when the Mulberries are ripe around here. It's like purple rain.

Have You ever used Elderberries for stain? I remember having purple hands for a few days after collecting some for wine making with My Grandpa when I was a kid.

Well now I used those as war paint as a kid. Can't wait to see it dried.

Thank God I clicked on this and it turned out this way. For a second there, I thought you had lost it.

agreed; this thread took a pleasant turn from where I thought it was going. good idea, i might use it. buckthorn seems pretty good at staining and there's more than enough of it around here (too much! dang invasive species) so I may try that

Osagetree

John, let us see the result if you do....

Good idea Joe. And not to disappoint a few guys here, one day while sitting in traffic, I had my arm hanging out the window when I feel a plop, dang dirty bird:)

Joe, natural stains are unstable to UV light and can fade with time. I've used it on a few projects and like the initial results. You would think it was very stable if you ever try to remove it from your hands or clothes.

Try some spar urethane on it to see how the color holds up outside in the sun.

Try a marine varnish with UV protection.  It will keep your osage yellow longer too.
Take a kid hunting!
