did you buy the leather, or tan it yourself?

Osagetree...I'm in Jefferson County. Come on over with one of your selfbows and bowhunt this season... 1,200 acres awaiting !

Stoner:  Is that beaver tail tanned or raw?

crgibson

Is this a joke? I don't get it, how do you view your pic?

Osagetree

Thanks for the invite. Not Sure where Jefferson County is but I'll check and review that possibility.

Thanks again,
Joe

oh that is really nice. Now I really have to kill a beaver. I know where several are too. That is one of the best handle wrap materials I have seen.

I have tried a couple methods for tanning a beaver tail and let me tell you it is no small feat.

Stiks, Any tanning insight for tail would be appreciated.

I will be having myself quite a handful of beaver come trapping season. Would like to use for wrap material.

Joe that was my deal, I caught several last winter that went over 70 lbs one went 81 lbs.

I kept all my tails and froze them. They ain't bad to flesh and dry like some guys like to use them but I like them like the ones posted here. Soft and supple. I have yet to figure it out. I do know you have to soak them in a lime solution to get the scales to slip. I tried three different tanning formulas and they still came out hard and stiff as a board.
