Making some bows for a fellow in MI that does Medieval archery (St Hubert's Rangers - Black Stag Bowmen) and wanted ELB's with full circle bend-in-the-handle bows. First one is osage 55 @ 28 and the second is yew with horn nocks 40 @ 28. Both about 70"

Is the osage round bellys?  What is the width of both?

Looking good Shaun. I just got my Stillwater bow from Gene at comptons. 72" 55#@30" OSAGE with carmel colored horn knocks.Shot it this morning,BUTTAH I do like me a nice ELB. I have some ash and hackberry staves ready to go and am just waiting for the time to jump in. Soon man,soon!

Those are a couple of nice bows! I love elb's and the way they bend. How does the osage shoot? I've done a couple from hickory but never tried an osage elb? You nailed the tiller on those.

really nice bows. i posted regarding ELBs just the other day and someone else did also. i'm glad you posted your pics. i've been wanting to do one and i learned something just from your pics. thankyou. don

They are booth round belly and cross section from nearly round at the middle to slightly flattened and back to round at the tips. Something I learned over at PA is to keep the width to thickness ratio at least 8 to 5 to qualify as an ELB style limb.

If you look closely at the two full draw pics you can see the yew bow is slightly elliptical in tiller - a little flat spot in the arc at the middle. Did not want to take it farther into circle as it was at 40#. Booth sweet shooters with some hand shock from the bend in the handle, less with the yew because the wood is so light. I love the full circle arc on the osage bow - reminds me of the Maurice Thomson quote about he new moon.
