Someone asked last for plans for the shaving horse pictured in one of my messages.

Here is a copy of the plan I found on the net.

I modified the plans a little to suit my needs.  First, I wanted the working table to extend all the way to the end to accommodate a larger stave.  Second, I wanted to be able to fold the table for transportation.

I accomplished that by using four legs instead of three.  This does make the horse less stable on  uneven ground, but so far I haven't had a problem.

I use 1/2" dowels to lock the legs into place when they are in the working position.  I did have 1/4" dowels, but they broke under the stress and the thing folded up on me!!  It works now though.

I think the images are self explanatory but I will be happy to elaborate if needed.

Hope someone can use this.  I really enjoy it.

I just notice I spelled axle wrong ... oh well.

Again I will be glad to answer any questions.

Please resize pics  to 600 pixels or less.
I, Nephi, did make out of wood a bow, and out of a straight stick, an arrow and did go forth up into the top of the mountain and did obtain food for our families and they did humble themselves before the Lord, and did give thanks unto him. 1 Nephi 16

Thanks, Don. I sure appreciate you posting all this. I've copied the pictures before they get yanked for being too big for the forum   ;)

Tie two birds together; though they have four wings, they can not fly.

I resized the pics, hope that helps!!

Except for the scrap 2x4s on the lever, the rest of the wood is rough-cut spruce I bought at the Do-It Center for around $20.00.

Don how important is a George to the whole process?
Thanks for sharing now some pics of it in use.  :)

Actually, George was pretty important.  I think he christened it.

I usually lay a towel on the table when working on the belly so as not to damage the ring I chased.

How long is the overall length? I see where you say the "shaving table" is 40" long. Is the whole horse 5ft long?

I just noticed I didn't give a measurement for the placement of the lever.  Mine is about 36" from the back of the horse.  I guess that distance would depend on the size of the user. I am 6 feet tall.

very nice don. thanks for posting. i gotta ask. with your name, Don Drake, why didn't you go with the obvious user name? i think it would be cool, considering it's your real name. you could have your avatar be him holding or shooting a bow.  :campfire:   don

KellyG asked for some pics of the horse in use.  The wooden one, not the fat one sitting on it.      :)

Thanks,
Don
