I myself am not too impressed by anyone that hoards knowledge in this hobby, no matter if its the way someone back in the day tempered a piece of bamboo, or wrapped thier handles.  

IMO, its poor for the hobby and says much about the folks hoarding, no matter what thier name is.

How many bows have you built with this wrap?

Where did you get those small throngs at?

I thought the throng was one peice, but from your posts, it appears to be a two part deal?

I have a Osage English style longbow built by Steve Martin, of Kentucky, with the same style grip. Feels real good in the hand!

I have not built any bows with this wrap yet but I plan to.

Actually not referring to you, but to Mr. Strunk for his wishes no one repeat his style.  After reading the big deal in another forum with one person who put it out there, not sure if I want it on a bow of mine.

I might just try to reproduce vanilla's style.  He did a fine job and I like his.

check out tandy leather- you might have to mail order them in. the english term is thong

but you guys south of the line refer to it as lace- well whatever!!, tandy will certianally have it.
if you cant get any i can cut you some thin chrome tan cowhide or goathide lace/thong and send you some.( same as the roo- just local leather- not tooo many roo up here!)
how long do you need it.
Tandy will also sell bags of offcuts, for handle wraps etc. and some nifty lacing needles too.

John Strunk sells his bows it is not a hobby to him.  If I was a pro and had a proprietary method I don't think I would want everyone to know it either.

Lots of folks sell thier bows.  But I think many are missing the big picture here.  We are talking about a handle wrap.  Just take a second to think about that.  You use the word proprietary.  I own several patents myself, and that is proprietary.  I have yet to see a patent by the man on this handle.  Hense not as you say proprietary.  

After seeing all this, it doesn't matter.  If the man doesn't want his signature on one of my bows, I won't put it on any of my bows.

I'd say it's a mute point at this juncture. I've seen so many pictures of this style handle wrap that it's no big secret now. It doesn't matter if your Bear Archery, or Big Jim Archery if you put your product out there for the world to see somebody will utilize some part of your design or one of your characteristic fascimilies on their own bows, simply because they like it. If your using it on your own stuff and not marketing it, then I don't see what it hurts to use it. It is afterall just a handle wrapping technique and not the next smart phone technology.....right?

If I were to use this handle wrap design, I would simply do like Vanillabear did and make referrence to it as "A variation of the Strunk handle wrap, with my own twist on it" and I think that recognition is a nice way to show respect for the man who came up with it.

I use Eric Krewson's gizmo and than him for it everytime I use it, but I don't intend to steal his design and market it. Same as with his signature bamboo finish, I'm going to use it and let anybody who asks me about it know where I got the idea from. That's just courtesy and respect for another man's talents and putting his ideas out there.

I'm not one to follow others. Came up with my own grip and stitch and like it a lot. Looks like many other you see, nothing special, but I did devolepe and refine it myself over the years. Try putting your own stamp on things.........Art

Mine are all ugly as hell with old couch and coat leather, that way nobody wants to copy them! They sure feel good in my hand though. Johns grip looks quite easy to "rip off" in my opinion. I could make all my grips like his, but Im betting I wont out sell him if I wanted to.

Your right. My grips are not fancy, but I like em.  And even if I don't like em, they are all mine.  Post anytime you like Art.  I always respect and read your posts.
