all right i had an idea    i dont know what its called BUT i want to take a peice of yew and glue some ash lams on the back..yew wood was chopped on one side to let water out and even thought the sap wood is gone i can still use the heart wood..SO,with the ash is it ok to glue on 2 short peices 32"LONG or does it have to be one long peice also what is s good glue title bonds work..and does the wood need to be scored...thanks john

John, you can join the ash at the handle with a simple scarf joint. I would add an overlay for security though. Ash would be OK for this too.

o.k pat that sounds great..i might try some hickory...

If you have hickory for the backing I would use that instead of the ash.

so pat,what about glue..and i would have to cut my own lams so what is a good thickness for the hickory..thanks john

For the hickory backing cut it to 3/16" and sand it down to 1/8" or slightly less. You can use TB glue or Urac if you have it.
