Hey everyone, so I recently found a supplier of straight grained birch, mahagony, cherry, and oak lumber. I have made many bows with oak before and tried mahagony once with no success but my question is can you use cherry and birch to make self bows? Is the wood correct to be limb wood by itself? any personal experiance would be greatly loved. Thank you!

Both will work. Make the bows wide and long. 2" wide x 68" or so long would be a good start. If you can make them bend in the handle you can shorten them up a little.

I dont know about birch but I've blown up a couple cherry bows. I've seen some nice bows made from cherry on here before though. If I remember right they were fairly long and wide and low poundage. The ones I tried were from boards with pretty straight grain. Staves might work better.
