Working on a bow now for a benefit auction and everything is going great and very happy with how its turning out.  That is until I put the scale on it and realized its going to be a bit light on the draw weight.  Right now its 64" NTN R/D and wondered what I would expect to add to draw weight by cutting it down to a 62"?

Probably around a 4-8 lb. increase.

put some temporary  nocks on it (string n wedge) and give it a pull.  should get you spot on.  Also save you the trouble of piking more than once.

I get 6# added on my 64" down to 62". (d/r)

k-hat, can you or someone go into more detail about the temp nocks.  Sounds easy

For a selfbow, they claim 5% increase for every 1% cut off.  So for a 66" bow starting at 45lbs, here's how that would look.

When they say temp nocks, they mean just rasp in your nocks, to new location but do not cut your limbs yet.  So it will look like you have several nock points.

I did some on my kid's bow that looked really cool, but it was artificial sinew and the nocks started sliding down, and i had them suckers tite!  I may retry tighter or with a different string, maybe fishing line.  think it was the wax on the art sinew.  good luck!

Big Country:  nice info!! I've got some pikng in mind on my second bow and that's good info to know!

k: if youre using a wedge with any kind of string , especially waxed A.Sinew , then you have to get a small wrap on the bow itself below the wedge , or it will slide down no matter what (unless your tips taper like crazy). if your bow is smooth , and even in width and thickness , string will always slide.

couple wraps at the botton and a drop of superglue give you temporary assurance , while a nice bead of superglue would make it more permanent , but still very easily removed.


there are also others who use 2 or 3 sets of nocks , kind of like an adjustable.

Thanks for the info gents.  I braced it up with its right string yesterday and it is heavier than I thought it was going to be but not quite as heavy as I was shooting for.  I think the 4-6 pound increase others are saying will put it right where I want it to be.  I am going to go ahead and finish sanding the bow and see where it ends up.  if it is under my goal by a couple pounds then I will leave it.  It is for an auction so being lighter will be fine and may bring more interest.
