You should be able to just peel the bark and make a bow.

You will get a stave alright Roy, whether you will be able to dislodge it and use it is another question? .............The bark and sapwood came right off to a perfect back with ease, no ring chasing involved. Mine have curled about 2" already. I sealed the ends and left the rest bare. I am going to give them a year before  touch them. I have an unlimited supply where this log came from so I plan on getting another 10-12 staves in the next week or so.

Well I love you too Pearly Boy:) LMAO and glad it all worked out.

Wow that makes me wanna go cut some even more now, I like the sounds of that and it even puts it's own reflex in itself........what more could a guy ask for? Maybe you could scream real loud at it and it would just jump out of the bark by itself?

Hey Roybert, I'm gonna ask the mods if they can add a new emoticon to the list. I'd like to see a little crawfish running backwards so I could use it on you at times like these.   :goldtooth:

pearl- I'm going to work it alot sooner. Probably next week. If I get off my bum and finish my sons bow. I've had it in the hot box for a few weeks now and it seems pretty dry. here is a pic of the "natural" reflex.

I'm interested to see how this hackberry works out. I just cut some of it myself a few weeks ago.

Thats' awesome...Pearly no worries I would've fallen for it. I probably would have searched for days on mongolian tulip. Great thread, hope the staves make some great bows for you!

I just figured it had an exotic name, like Russian olive.

I now have 7 full staves and 2 sets of sisters worth of mongolian tulip to work this winter. The hickory is coming next. My plan is to have 25-30 peeled and sealed staves of various variety for winter working.

I heard somewhere that Mongolian Tulip causes dementia. Have you experienced any ill thoughts towards others, strange dreams, or hallucinations?   :saywhat:

Not really, but fascinations of revenge keep drifting through my head??????? Could just be a side effect of the sapwood I touched while peeling the staves?????
