Just a curious question on how you guys are coming up with the bow form designs (refering to fades/ reflex/deflex...)  Is it something yall play around with or is there a specific rule of thumb for radius's on the r/d bows?

Just figured that if it was a trial and error game it would get pretty pricey.....

I just wing it. A few cocktails for inspiration and go. Draw a bunch of lines and pick what you like.

I agree with DVS Hunter I just sketch around until I get the shape I am looking for. I never had any reference until DVS sent me the caul design that I just worked up Thanks David by the way I will pass it on to you JSMOFFITT03 if you are interested just send me a PM

you know whats funny,  for the longest time when i read the forum I sall the "Traveling Caul Design"  I couldnt for the life of me figure out what it was,  then I asked Semo what a Caul was and then with your last post a "light bulb just went off"  I think im gonna be alright... LOL

StoneAK

Don't feel bad when the traveling caul started I watched closely to the thread and like you couldn't figure it out until I asked questions. Thats what we are here for to ask and answer I think that is what makes this site so great. There is so much knowledge that you can always learn

Just keep passing it along and keep the pattern alive is all we ask Jarrod. You will be the Esteemed Keeper until someone asks for it. :readit:
Glad I could help, I'm sure that Stone just let out a huge sigh of relief that he's no longer responsible now.

``a form or plate for pressing a veneer or veneers being glued to a backing or to each other.''

I've also heard it used to refer to a scrap of wood used under the jaws of a clamp to keep them from damaging the work.

I got the caul and realized that was what I was doing the whole time and still didn't realize it. I must say the caul design that I shipped to JSMOFFITT03  is a good design and I like it a lot.

Ok, now I get it!  So, when I put a pressure plate under the hose on my form, would that be a caul?

I am Using the caul design right now I used a section of water hose that I cut about 72" long. I laid the water hose across the top of my caul then put my glass and my bow wood on top of the water hose clamped it down with long clamps put it by the wood stove. Its working like a dream the hose puts a nice even pressure across the glass for a good seal and clean glue line. When your poor you have to improvise sometimes.
