I want to back my black walnut flatbow I'm  building with hickory.This is my first time building a bow.I have it all laid out and am going to take it down to were it needs to be before I back it this weekend.What glue would you recommend?According to the bowyers bible epoxy looks to be the best.But what kind of epoxy would be the best to back my bow with?Any help would be much appreciated.

I always use titebond3. Havent had a problem with it yet. Lots of guys on here like urac185 but I've never tried it myself.

EA-40 Smooth On.  Sold at 3 Rivers.
Urac 185.  Also sold at 3 Rivers.  

Smooth-On is also a industry standard with glass laminations.  

Urac-185 is great with wood to wood but do not use it with glass.  

Resorcinol: excellent glue for perfectly fitting glue joints.  Withstands heat better than Epoxy or Urac. Does not fill gaps as well as epoxy.  Leaves a purple glue line.

I would go with Urac 185 if it's your first bow.  I think it is more forgiving than epoxy.  Plus, it also fills gaps and you can make it as thick as you like.

is urac waterproof?

TBII or TBIII will work fine, is readily available, cheap and cleans up with water. I've used both for years. ...and with a good finish you don't need waterproof glue even though both TBII and TBIII are water resistany(TBIII is waterproof).

Urac is waterproof, get a little on your clothes during a glue-up and it will be there for the life of your clothes no matter how many time you wash them.

Get your urac from the Nelson Paint Company on line. Shipped for the same price as most charge before shipping. A pint will last you a long time.  It does have a shelf life, if you keep it in the frig it will last up to 3 years.

In my opinion Urac is the best although others mentioned will work just fine.

I like URAC and TBIII. I prefer TBIII because it works, never lets go and is cheap and easy with no mixing. Plus I dont have to rough up the glued surfaces. Either will hold a lifetime if done correctly.

Ive used both Urac and TBIII on wood to wood glue-ups and prefer the Urac. It fills gaps, has a longer working time for multiple laminations and is more heat resistant than TBIII.  Both are strong and waterproof and will clean-up with water.
