Waist high.

You will find that most counter tops and bench tops in homes are at 36"'s.  I have made my stands and benches the same and work great for me.  It also depends on how tall the person is, if someone is well over 6' then he may wish to make the tops a little taller and same if they are shorter then average.  JMHO that is.

I'm 6'4" and prefer my bench to be a bit higher to make it more comfortable when standing so I don't have to stoop over.  When sitting I have some pretty tall stools for the job.

Mine is higher than normal, even with my belly button. Im 6' 2" and Im comy with it, but it doesnt mean its good for all. I have an old desk in my shop for sit down work, which is rare.

I'm 5'10" so the 36" will probably work. I will see how close to waist high that is. Do you guys get nose bleed   :D   . Thanks, Don

I differ from the above advice. I don't like to bend over while working on a bow, fell out of one too many trees while deer hunting.

I made my bench 42" to the top. I am 5' 10" as well and the height of my work bench has been perfect.

Here is a guy about 6ft tall working on a bow in my shop, no strain.

My bench is belly button high.  But with the vise, it's about like Eric's pic above when I'm working on a bow.  I'm 5-10".

Another thing I did was to build a frame work and buy some prefab cabinets from Lowe's that fit my bench. I am lousy at making drawers, hard to do with only a band saw.

im 5 9 tall and my bench is 38 inches tall. it works fine for me a most other people. when making arrows sanding a doing the fine finishing work on whatever i might be working on i like to set in a chair. so two diffrent heights be better. thats just my opnion.

I'm only 5'7 and I like mine at 42 inches but I welded nuts in the legs on mine and the lowest it goes to is 36 inches and 44 being the highest.

When I built my shop I put the top of my benches at 38" but before that I placed electrical outlets at 44" so that I could plug small tools in without an extension cord. Just a thought if you can still rough in some electrical.

WAIST HIGH, LOTS OF PLUG-INS CLOSE, NEAR WINDOWS FOR NATURAL LIGHT, COMFY STOOLS.  NOW IF I CAN GET SOMEONE ELSE TO SWEEP UP - - -
