PEARL DRUMS

I posted a while back about "stiffening" up a sluggish hickory self bow. I got plenty of useful replies as usual and chose the sinew rout. I have put two layers on over 3 weeks, the last was 8 days ago. I used TBIII for glue. I think my sinew is thicker than it needs to be by looking at Gregs work. My question now is can I sand the sinew smooth? And, can I take it of my relfex form yet? It appears to be bone dry already.

I'd say yes to both questions.

You can take it of. it will continue to dry over time but it should be safe to draw PD. Hope to see this bow and see what you come up with  :)  good luck!

Its her last chance......if this doesnt work she goes to the corner of scrap!

A big ol' double cut flat bastard works great on the sinew Pearl. Followed with a scraper and then sanding block using 80-100 grit sandpaper.......Art

I'm glad you asked about sanding the sinew.  I was wanting to smooth out my sinew backed hickory and paint some designs on it.  Either that, or put a snake skin on it.

Im not sure what to do with mine. Im not into painted tribal stuff at all. It seems too rough for skins? I will keep plinking with it until I figure it out. It sat for 8-10 years because it was too light and sluggish, it wont hurt to sit a little longer!

Heay PD what was that thread called - the one where you got your tips?

By the way that bow looks great!
